Goodbye SLO

Tommorrow we leave SLO for SoCal Central. While I have completely fell in love with the area, it is time for a change of scenery and I am ready to move on. Today we got the oil changed in the BB and did a few other last minute errands. Then Jeff rode his bike (into SLO!) and I went to a used bookstore in Morro Bay to get a book on William Randolph Hearst (as I said after visiting Hearst Castle, fascinating man).

Yesterday we went for a drive up the coast as our only visit there was on a cold, miserable day. We returned to Cambria to visit Moonstone Beach. It is so interesting how each little stretch of beach is so different from the one just a few miles down the road. This beach is extremely rocky and has pockets of small rocks where one can dig for the aptly named "moonstone". We had seen them in a store on our first visit but got a refresher course from another couple walking the beach and soon we were finding (and pocketing) a few of the stones.

We also saw a few birds finding their supper in the tidepools that the huge boulders created along the shore.

And Jeff found this tidepool inhabited by a (live) Starfish, anemones, and a million little crabs in their pretty little shells. Some as small as an eight of an inch and some up to two inches or so!

Drove back down Highway 1 (which is just beautiful, by the way) and reached Morro Bay in time for a spectacular sunset...

After being in the SLO area for the past 11 days, I now understand why the California Cheese Producers slogan is something about "Happy Cows". Yes, it is a beautiful place. The sea, the land, even the people. All extremely lovely!
