After checking out the bay side of Morro rock, we went to the beach/ocean side, where there was a "surf" warning (above and beyond the usual warnings!).
Rogue Wave Warning |
And yet, there were at least 2 guys out surfing! |
It was getting pretty chilly so we started driving in to shore but on the way, we drove by an area on shore that we had not yet explored....the docks. Morro Bay is a bonefide fishing port with a lot of the fish being sold to local restaurants and also a small plant, Morro Bay Fish Co.
We were walking along the docks right after the fishing boats had come in so there was quite a lot of activity. Pretty soon we noticed the sea lions, that normally sit on an offshore deck, were descending quickly on the docks. And they were in a hurry! Obviously it was dinner time, or at least they hoped it was. And they stationed themselves right below the Morro Bay Fish Co. stand (where the fish were being sorted) in a futile attempt to beg for food, or even scraps.
Please!!! |
Feeling adventurous, I bought a small chunk of smoked barracuda at the seafood stand. Anyone that knows me well, knows I hate any seafood that tastes "fishy". Love the cod, haddock, most ocean fish really. But this stuff was....eeewwww! So when we turned the corner and saw a begging pelican, I generously offered him my fish.
He would take it, then promptly spit it out. So I'm not the only one that didn't like the smoked barracuda! The sea gulls, however, loved it. They snapped up every piece the pelican spit out! Out behind the fish shop, they had two tanks each with a Sheephead Fish, for "petting". Pretty colors, ugly faces.
We finished our walk around the docks and headed out to pick up a few groceries just as it started to really cloud up. By the time we hit Albertson's...
More Rainbows! And not just one...
Double Rainbows!
And to make it a completely fabulous afternoon, I got my very own Albertsons "Preferred" Customer Card.
Today was another laid back day with Jeff tackling a few "chores" (he popped both his bike tires in Lodi and had yet to replace them). I took the day to do some cleaning, organizing (or reorganizing), and made that pot of Chicken Soup too! I also took a solo trip into SLO to run a few additional errands, including a stop at TJ Maxx. Pretty cool today but I still don't get why these people are dressed in winter coats, scarves, even mittens. I had a tee-shirt and shorts on for most of the day. After deliberating for about, 3 seconds, Jeff and I decided we wouls stay on here in SLO until Thursday of next week, then head to the "valley" for 3 days, and the Anzo-Borrego for 5 days. Instead of driving 50 or so miles south on Monday with the BP, we will leave her here and take a day trip to the Solang-Buellton area. Can't beat the price, the campground or the area so why move??? That's the beauty of NOT being on a schedule!
