Deep South

A quick drive south and east and we arrived at Lake End RV Campground in Morgan City. We will be here for a full week and it is going to be a much needed change and rest. On the recommendation of the manager we chose a spot in the "new" campground which is at the far end of the lake and away from the main area which is full of campers and kids (the grounds include a city park). With the exception of one lone guy at the other end of the loop, we are alone! Backed up to a beautiful lake full of wildlife, mystical creatures and, we are told, a few alligators.
Morgan City is deep south and surrounded by the Atchafalaya River, Bayou Boeuf and Lake Palourde. Pretty much surrounded by water and more or less an island. We took a very large bridge over and to exit, we will drive along the top of a levee separating the river from the lake.
Plenty of Cypress and that lovely Spanish Moss as well as a marina. There were even two guys out on their Jet Skis this afternoon! It was an unseasonably warm and muggy day...78+ degrees. Felt like 120% humidity!! But the breeze off the lake was nice and kept the mosquitoes at bay.

We went for a walk around the park after getting set up. It's about a mile from where we are to the main part of the campground. Lot's of people out at the park today...picnics, football games and kids playing in the playground. Nice to see people out enjoying the weather on January 8.

We saw a few Egrets, ducks, seagulls and pelicans. And we also saw this little cutie. I have no idea what this is but he charged us near the marina and then followed us on our walk (clearly hoping for a hand-out).

After sitting a spell, looking out on the lake and enjoying a cold Corona, I put some Boudin on the grill. It was just delicious!

I actually had to take my second shower of the day after dinner, felt sticky and sweaty from this thick, thick air. By the time I finished and went outside, everything was soaking wet...the chairs, the table, the BP! I am not complaining but I can't even imagine what it feels like in August here. Must be absolutely awful! At worst for me I will suffer from more than normal bad-hair days and make use of a rubber band everyday.
Other than stalking the "Swamp People" in Pierre Part (which is about 15 minutes from here), we have no concrete plans for our week and may just chillax for a change. Yeah, right. Let's see how long that idea lasts!
