Louisiana is officially closed!

In a nutshell, here's how the last few days have played out. Monday we had over-cast skies and wind (like hurricane force wind) so we took a bike ride to what we saw on a map as "4-mile Bayou Road". We even stopped at the campground office to assess the logistics. We were forewarned that the "4-mile" did not pertain to the length of the road. It was just the name of the Bayou it led to...4-mile Bayou. Whatever, we needed some exercise and the roads are flat here so off we go. Down Hwy. 70 about 4 miles we get to the turnoff but could not find the road. It was a dead-end. No matter, we still had a nice ride along some Bayou..

Houses on the Bayou
Yes, people live here!

No wildlife in sight as the temps were in the 70's but very cool wind and no sun. We did come across this little store. Clearly closed for the "season"???

On the way back to the campground crossed the highway and up and over the levee was the Atchafalaya Basin. The largest freshwater basin in the US. Check it out on Google Earth....amazing. Also where the Swamp People (Troy and clan) hunt for 'Gators!

Tuesday we decided to take the 30 mile trek to Houma. For two reasons...one, we needed a part for the RV and they have an RV store there and two, to go to the Bayou Terrebone Waterlife Museum. The streets in Houma are majorly F'ed up due to several bayous running right through town. After circling a city block no less than four times we found the RV store but, of course, they did not carry the part we needed. OK, on to the museum. Except after circling a city block no less than ten times, we gave up. Pretty sure it was closed down but no one thought it necessary to remove their ads or website.

Doesn't Exist!!!

On the way back to Morgan City we searched for the visitors center in Morgan City. Had the address, found the sign pointing to a building but, guess what...no visitors center. We even went into the next door Chamber of Commerce to check and they didn't even know there was a sign out front, much less anything about a visitors center!
Doesn't Exist!

Today we tried again. Drove 30 minutes to the Bayou-Teche National Wildlife Center. Had the website printed out, address, directions, description, etc. Guess again....closed up tight. Found the headquarters and it was locked up tight. No explanation.
Doesn't Exist!
Tried to find the trail head as shown on the map. Nope...doesn't exist. Back to Morgan City and using the iPhone directory, Jeff directed me to an automotive store in hops of finding the part we needed. We DID find the address...out of business. Now I am starting to get the idea we are jinxed or something. Returned home and after a bit thought we should bike up to a local park called Brownell Memorial Park.
Closed!

Yup, it was 4:15. Park closed at 4.  We are giving up for the day. Tommorrow we may attempt to drive up to Pierre Parte (home of my man, Troy). Can they close a whole town???
I close with two pictures of my little darlings since they are always open...to love!
