Gimme More...Zydeco!!!

We got up early today to go to breakfast at Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Bridge, where there is a "Zydeco Breakfast" every Saturday. Since it is clearly not the busy tourist season, I figured it would be pretty quiet. Music started at 8, we got there about 8:15 and walked in on this...
You'd have thought it was Saturday night, not morning. This place was absolutely wall to wall people and about 40 of them were squeezed on a 10x10 dance floor givin' her hell! And the band, Lil' Wayne and The Same Ol Two Step, were also givin' her hell!  We put our name in for a table and figured we'd be there hours before someone relinquished their table. But, again, that Southern hospitality came through. As soon as people were done eating, they gave up their table. They didn't necessarily leave but let someone else sit and eat. We waited maybe 15 minutes and were seated at a long table, family style, with a group of young people from Breaux Bridge. The music continued to be fabulous and the food...
Yum Yum Yum!!! Jeff had his first beignet and I had my first Boudin Omelet and my 2nd ever grits. All delicious. Community Brand coffee and a Bloody Mary topped us off.

While we were in Breaux Bridge, I walked Jeff down to the cool cemetery I had seen the other day. We walked through it. Pretty interesting, the above ground crypts. Also interesting that every other name is either "Broussard" or "Landry" or "Thibodeaux". The first names were equally interesting.

Old, hand carved cross.

After returning from breakfast, we spent the rest of the day doing laundry, walked around the grounds a little, did some cleaning and then made a batch of Chili using our new Tabasco Fixins and genuine Louisiana Brew.

Tonight I got my husband to go out for a little bit. We went to a very local, very Cajun dance hall called La Poussiere. This means "the dust" in French (or so I was told by the owner) because the old location had a dirt floor that would spit up dust as the people danced so they would say to one another, "Are you going to the dust tonight?". Very different sound from this mornings Zydeco. Much more Cajun Country. But we enjoyed watching the dancers and one couple in particular that moved their feet similar to "Lord of the Dance". I even was convinced to dance once with an older gentleman...a waltz. That I can handle but the other stuff was way beyond my skill level!

Tomorrow we move to Morgan City. Weather forecast is kind of dismal, in fact there is a flood warning tonight. What do you do...its Louisiana. Go with the flow. Oh and, since we are here...

                    GO SAINTS !!!!!!!
