The Drive to Bend

We were spot on this morning and were on the road at 9:05! The sky was overcast, as predicted, but just a sprinkling of rain off and on. The first half of the road was very typical, prairie with some steep grades up and down. Nothing to spectacular. A lot more cows in Oregon and a lot more farmland. And, clearly, a lot more poverty (at least in the first 100 miles of eastern Oregon).

By the way, I was forewarned by fellow campers back in Custer to pronounce Ore-uh-gun, not Ore-uh-gone....so there! I arrived prepared. One outstanding thing did appear to us, as if in a dream...a rainbow. On the ground, not in the air. Unbelievably beautiful...

We had a box lunch packed so we only stopped for gas and coffee and with the time change (another hour of our lives gained back) we arrived in Bend about 2 p.m. We drive out to a state park that we were hoping to stay at only to find it full up (hunting season started today in Oregon). Thanks to an amazing app on Jeff's iPhone we found there was an RV park right in south Bend, called and secured a spot and were there by 3:30 or so. Turns out, this is a beautiful park, full hook-ups, pull-through spot, lots of big pines and....a laundromat! We snatched up 3 days but after getting settled in, figured we may be here more like 5! There is so much to see in the surrounding Cascade Mountain range and also so much to see in Bend, aside from the two breweries we plan to visit. Beautiful community, gorgeous surroundings and so nice to be "planted" in such a lovely town. The evening was a pleasant mid 60's and sunny. Laundry is done, dinner consumed and Zena had a walk-about as well. Tommorrow, I don't even know where to start. There are several different scenic drives to take. A town to see. Beer to consume. And, believe it or not, a TJ Maxx!!! You KNOW I am hitting that up right quick and in a hurry!
