Woke up to a lot of pitter-patter of rain on the rooftop. This was a trend that would continue all day long. During a break in the rain (it seems to start-stop-start) I walked to the park office and asked the kind lady there what we should do on such a dreary day since hiking was out of the question. She promptly pulled out a map and drew a route that she promised would take us through some very scenic mountain pass loaded with animal life, mainly moose. He took her word and started out down a nicely paved back road. The road however quickly went to gravel, as all roads seem to do here in Idaho. And gravel, after a night of rain, quickly turns to mud. This was the start of a long and winding, one lane, extremely muddy 4-wheeling adventure through the mountains. And guess what else? Not one animal. Not a deer, not a moose, not even a bird or a squirrel dared show thier wet little heads. At first I thought it was kind of fun, then it lost it's appeal as the road became less muddy and more quick sand. The we met another truck. Oops. That became an issue for the vehicle less likely to budge, and that was me. The truck we met ended up quite stuck in a muddy ditch but I figured that was better than Jeff and I ( and BB) going over a cliff edge.
We managed to make it back to Victor where Jeff had spied a car-wash and once again, the BB got a bath. As I was waiting I found an ad in a local mag for a brewery right down the road. So since it was 5:00 somewhere, we went to the Grand Teton Brewing Company and sampled many fine beers, and man o man, did we need it! Mood and humor quickly recovered so we decided to drive the Teton Pass into Jackson where we spent the rest of the afternoon being the typical tourists (ie...shopping). No big damage, but a good lunch and a good cup of coffee. On the drive back (this is the pass with 10% grades) we were literally in the clouds. As we drove through this high pass the wispy clouds gathered around the valley and the view was a spectical. One that we could hardly photograph though as I was keeping both eyes on the road and there was NO WAY we were going to pull over.
We got back to the BP after 7 and made a nice, warm, garlicy pot of spaghetti which we ate while watching a few more episodes of Deadliest Catch (see, I do still cook and we do still watch stuff on the TV).
